Polish contributions To haiti and vodou

I finally found a book about Vodou I want to read. Well, it is not really about Vodou. It is about Poland. Yes, Poland. Poland has contributed a lot to Haiti and Haitian culture. First the Polish troops help the slaves win the revolutionary war and become the first Black republic in the Western Hemisphere. That is not what attracted me to this book. It was my love for Ezili Danto. I even named my botanica after her. My love for the Polish icon of the Black Madonna. I wanted to know who the original artist was, and how it came to be.

The name of the book is ‘Meetings With The Madonna’ by Jan Dobraczynski. I love this book so much that is no longer for sale, lol. The original Image was said to be painted by St. Luke on boards from the table of the last supper. The original came to Poland in 1430. Czech reformers almost destroyed it in a raid. King Wladyslaw Jagiello had the Image restored on the original boards.

Our Lady of Czestochowa has helped the Polish people through some very difficult times. They are a very strong people. Our Lady of Czestochowa got the scars on her face in a battle, just like Ezili Danto. This Image was carried to Haiti by Polish troops. They knew she was the one to call on in times of war. I love her so much. I would love her even if she did not represent Ezili Danto. You need to find the book and read it. Peace and love.
